Noongar Boodja Trust
NBT funds
The Noongar Boodja Trust (NBT) holds money in a range of different funds, depending on its intended purpose.
Operations Fund
The Operations Fund holds the funds for the Trustee to distribute to the central services corporation and the six regional corporations to fund their operations.
During the first 12 years, the fund receives $10 million per year (indexed for inflation) from the Western Australian Government.
Operations funds can only be distributed to the central services corporation and the six regional corporations.
The six regional corporations are funded each year to meet the basic operating and administrative costs of pursuing their objectives and complying with the ILUA.
The central services corporation is also funded to deliver core and regional services to the regional corporations.
After the 12-year period, operational funds will come from the investment earnings of the Noongar Future Fund.
Future Fund
The Future Fund exists to grow and maintain a sustainable capital base to sustain the operations of the regional corporations in perpetuity.
During the first 12 years, the fund receives $50 million per year (indexed for inflation) from the Western Australian Government. The Future Fund cannot be accessed during this period, except in special circumstances and with particular approvals.
After this 12-year period, all operations of the Trust will be funded by the Future Fund’s investment earnings:
90% will stay protected - this is called the Future Fund Capital Base.
10% will fund the operations of the Noongar corporations and other Trust activities.
The ambition is to grow the future fund to one billion dollars by the end of the first 12 years, although the outcome will depend on a range of factors.
Special Projects Fund
The Special Projects Fund was established for other funds or assets outside the anticipated funding and activities contemplated under the Settlement.
For example, a regional corporation or agreement group may ask the Trustee to hold and manage other assets associated with their ILUA region that are currently being held elsewhere.
